11986 O’Day 272Boat NameAma (Cherokee for Water)DimensionsLOA: 27 ft. 0 inBeam: 9 ft. 0 inLWL: 22 ft. 9 inDraft: 2 ft. 9 inDisplacement: 5375 lbs.Ballast: 1930 lbs.Great boat, in good shape with slip paid through March 2022. Located mid-bay on the Eastern Shore of Virginia Great boat, (Onancock). All Pictures were taken July 2021.Thanks for looking at my listing. This is a solid boat with no major issues. It has a roller-furling jib that is older but serviceable and a newer full battened mainsail in fine condition. The boat sleeps up to five adults. There is a new Bimini, a GPS, depth sounder, compass, VHF, three batteries and all the basics - just waiting for your personal gear to go sailing. I had a diver scrape the bottom in June and the diesel fired right up after a layover due to the pandemic. One of the very few problems with this design is the need to reinforce the inboard chain-plates that were originally attached to the half inch thick bulkhead. The previous owner did this with a vengeance, using two ¾” reinforcements on each, so these are about twice as strong as need-be.I have been sailing for over 50 years and have sailed/owned all manner of boats large and small. Every boat is a compromise and I was concerned that downsizing from a 34 foot O’Day to a 27ft would be difficult. I can honestly say that this boat with its inboard diesel engine, long waterline, higher freeboard and shallow wing heel is a delight to sail. I bought her in 2018 as a comfortable and simple boat for my wife and I to continue cruising on the Chesapeake Bay. It is indeed a great “big little boat”. Then, of course Covid came and all the marinas closed down, my wife’s health deteriorated and I had my 73rd birthday so I have decided, reluctantly, to sell Ama to someone who can continue to enjoy her. Please study the pictures, do your homework, see what these boats are selling for and bid accordingly. Please do not bid if you do not intend to buy and be prepared to forward the nonrefundable deposit within a day of winning. If you have zero feedback contact me before bidding. You can find O’Day 272’s from about 5 to over 14 thousand dollars. I have started the bidding at the lowest I am willing to sell her for but am confident she should go nearer the higher number. But, who-knows, you could get a real bargain. Keep in mind you are buying a 35 year old boat sold as-is where is.The boat is available for viewing at your leisure. Feel free to ask questions and I will respond to the best of my knowledgeGood luck and thanks again for reviewing my listing.
